Fitch Lumber & Hardware was founded in 1907 by A.B. Fitch in Mebane, N.C. 20 miles north of Carrboro. As the town prospered and the University of North Carolina grew, a delivery station was opened in Carrboro in 1923, managed by A.B.’s son Bernice.
In 1945, fire destroyed the Mebane store, leading to all operations being moved to Carrboro and the addition of Bernice’s brother Miles to the business. Later, Miles’ children Mac and Carol joined after college. Today, the business is being carried on by the next generation, with three of Mac’s four sons David, Miles and John working to maintain its prominence in the community’s building industry.
Fitch Lumber & Hardware continues to grow and provide a wide range of goods and services to meet the town’s needs. Its expertise and product knowledge have been passed down through generations. Come see us and discover all we have to offer for your home comfort.
